Finally I have decided to release my website and blog, today I open my doors to the online world. Professionals and colleagues, friends and family, are all welcome and I encourage you to follow me here. The blog is divided into three main sections: “Works” (posts strictly related with material and shows of my job), “Personal” (where I will provide any subject of my interest) and “Showreel” (posts with samples or video compilations of my works). Furthermore, you will find the "Labels" menu on the right column, where I will classify differents sub-categories for an accesible and comfortable navegation through the blog content. Finalmente me he decidido a estrenar mi web y mi blog, hoy abro mis puertas al mundo online. Compañeros de profesión, amigos y familiares, sois todos bienvenidos y os animo a seguirme por aquí. Okros Project

Here I leave some character design, concept art and sample panels of a comic project of fantasy, romance and adventures, which plot turn around some characters along four different stories, set on different ages and places, but they always have as a common nexus to Okros, a legendary and mythologic sword, forged from immemorial times and that keeps in her blade the tormented soul of a miserable being, a devil with eternal blood thirst, who will trick and go mad to everyone who take up the sword.

The comic story is based on a short story of my brother (which actually is displayed in the first of the four stories) and have approximately a 140 pages extension (between 30 and 40 pages by part). I have written the full story, but for now only the first story or chapter is drawed and almost finished. I hope to can finish the rest some day and publish them on two volumes (probably on digital format)

Aquí os dejo algún diseño de personaje, arte conceptual y páginas de ejemplo de un proyecto de cómic de fantasía, romanticismo y aventuras, cuya historia gira entorno a varios personajes a lo largo de 4 relatos diferentes, ambientados en distintas épocas y lugares, pero que siempre tendrán como nexo común a Okros, una espada legendaria y mitológica, forjada desde tiempos inmemoriales y que encierra en su hoja el espíritu atormentado de un ser desgraciado, un diablo con eterna sed de sangre, que embaucará y enloquecerá a todo aquel que empuñe la espada.

La historia esta basada en un relato corto de mi hermano (que en realidad es lo que se muestra en el primero de los cuatro relatos) y tiene una extensión aproximada de 140 páginas (entre 30 y 40 páginas por relato). Tengo escrito toda la historia, pero por ahora solo el primer relato esta dibujado y prácticamente acabado, espero poder finalizar el resto algún día y poder publicarlo en dos volúmenes (seguramente en formato digital)

Brokend Land - Concept Art

A couple concept arts of a project titled "Broken Land", which script I wrote about one year ago with the idea of filming three fiction shortfilms (real filming with actors, not animation), and so do a mini-trilogy. On fact, only the first part of the script could be considered as solid draft script, the other ones have to be refined a lot yet, although I  already have the main idea defined. The good thing is that the first part could works fine as a closed history, so I can shoot it and wait to see her acceptation, and depending that and the economic circunstances, leave the history as ended or continue with the rest.

On a unknown future, Broken Land has been submerged by the darkness and surrender to the absolutely control of the feared Sentinels. Along decades, any resistences have been useless, on the street only stay the dust and ashes of those who refused to be converted, and the toxic air that is breathed is carrier of "The Mark", a strange ill that causes a premature aging into the few survivors who yet hide around the underground of the city. The only hope is on those young rebels, not yet affected by the ill, who refuse to surrender, and still fighting to try to take back which is theirs, what belong them by birth... their home

I have really wanted to shoot this project, but I already have another one on the way, which have had more possibilities to go head, so this one have to wait a bit more.

Un par de diseños conceptuales de un proyecto titulado Broken Land, cuyo guión escribí hace aproximadamente un par de años con la idea de poder rodar 3 cortometrajes de ficción (rodaje real con actores, no de animación), y formar así una mini-trilogía. En realidad, solo la primera parte del guión podría considerarse como un borrador solido, las otras dos aun habría que perfilarlas mucho, aunque la idea la tengo ya definida. Lo bueno es que la primera parte puede funcionar bien como una historia cerrada, osea que puedo rodarla y ver que aceptación tiene, y en funcion de ello y de las circunstancias economicas, dejar la historia como finalizada o continuar con el resto.

En una futuro desconocido, Broken Land ha sido sumida en la oscuridad y sucumbe al control absoluto de los temibles Centinelas. Durante décadas, toda resistencia ha sido inútil, en las calles solo queda el polvo y cenizas de aquellos que se negaron a ser convertidos , y el aire tóxico que se respira es portador de “La Mella”, una extraña enfermedad que provoca un envejecimiento prematuro en los pocos supervivientes que aun se refugian en el subsuelo de la ciudad. La única esperanza reside en aquellos jóvenes rebeldes, aun no afectados por la enfermedad, que se niegan a rendirse y que aun luchan por tratar de recuperar lo que es suyo, lo que les pertenece por nacimiento...su hogar.

Tengo muchas ganas de poder rodar este proyecto, pero aun tengo uno en camino que ha tenido mas posibilidades de salir adelante, así que este tendrá que esperar aun un poco más.

Showreel 2011

A 2011 compilation with some of my works as animator, filmmaker, illustrator/character designer, or post-production & VFX artist. The most of the video material are work requests, but also included contents about personal projects. If you need more information or just want to know something more about any contents of this video, don't doubt and ask me, please. I apologize for the low resolution of some samples, but the original material of some sequences are available only in SD (Standard definition). Freaks Night Show

The main character of this illustration has quite years, I remember that I still was doing the animation degree when I sketched to this peculiar "Vampirella". I recovered the sketch back from my abandoned drawings folder, and with the premiere of the animated film "Hotel Transylvania" on this days, I wanted to resume it again and I ended up to add all a group of classic freaks (if you had to choose one, who would you choose? I choose the Kraken and Franky, just because they give a bit more colorfull to the picture, although the action line is better on Vampirella, at less for me)

Hand drawn just with pencils, a bit clean up on SketchBook Pro, and colored on Photoshop.

El personaje principal de esta ilustración tiene ya bastantes años, creo recordar que aun estaba cursando la carrera de animación cuando esboce a esta particular "Vampirella". Recientemente la recupere de mi carpeta de dibujos abandonados, y con el reciente estreno de la película animada "Hotel Transilvania", me entraron ganas de retomarlo y al final acabe por añadir todo un grupo de clásicos monstruitos (si tuvierais que elegir, ¿con cual os quedaríais? Yo me quedo con el Kraken y Franky, simplemente porque dan un toque de color mas llamativo al conjunto, aunque la linea de acción es mejor en Vampirella, al menos para mi).

Dibujado a mano solo con lápices, limpiado con SketchBook Pro y coloreado en Photoshop.

The Shadow Line . A brilliant darkly thriller

I found with this british miniserie some weeks ago, a BBC production of seven episodes which has been a great surprise. It caught quickly my attention, and even before I could know how much would be able to enjoy it, I already was trapped fully.

The plot, set on the present London, turn around the conflict to the drugs traffic inside United Kingdom, and above all on the murder case of a important and feared drug dealer, who had recently been set free of jail after receiving a royal pardon for his crimes. From this point, the crime investigation will be carried of parallel way on both sides: the drug dealers, and the police, which will give to the viewers a vision from different angles. On one hand, we have the detective Jonah Gabriel (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who is fronting the case while try overcome an amnesia suffered because of a recent head shoot, and on the other hand, Joseph Bede (Christopher Eccleston), right hand of the dead drug dealer, who is forced to take the leadership of the group and try keep the dead man's nephew in line, even when his only wish is really go away of this life and try to overcome the hard moments that lives with his wife. In the perspective of these characters, we must add a third character, the mysterious, darkly, merciless and calculating Gatehouse (a sublime Stephen Rea), whose important role always seems be hidden behind a unknown loyalties and purpose. Under this triangle of characters, a complicated plot is developed, these ones where you need pay a lot of attention, and while some things are clarify, others is muddled even more, thanks in part to the subplots which keep other characters, some of them quite important (like the Peter Glickman character, played by Antony Sher, who share with Stephen Rea one of the top sequences of entire serie for me)

Two spotlights emerge from the darkness, two cops with flashlights on hand illuminate a car with a dead man inside. After check the crime scene, one of them, the most experienced, says to the other: "This is not for us, We are going to pass it and after, we left away of the picture as much as we can...because whoever takes over this fucking issue, sure as shit will be his death". After, He points at the dead man with his fingers, as if were a gun, and shoots: bang, bang...bang! The case is open and the series titles appears, accompanied for her brilliant main song, which finish to put the icing on the cake to the first superb sequence of the TV show. Nothing more is neccesary, sometimes you just need a minute to know that you bump into something which you will need see without choice...Shadow Line is one of this times.

Impeccable technically, shoot with extreme exquisiteness, and surronded with a worrying atmosphere, darkly and oppresive, The Shadow Line contain some of the best sequences than I have ever seen on a TV serial, and the best part is that this good work is keeping from the first sequence to the last one. Although the flatteries for the series are a lot, I need to confess that there are a few narrative gaps, and moments a bit hard to believe, on part because the dialogue lines finish to be too bombastic and grandiloquente. But this only happens in very few occasions, and it be make up for with the accompaniment of a great performances, among them, is should be pointed out the Gatehouse character, playing by talented Stephen Rea, who eats the camera on every plane.

In short, this series revelation of 2011, written, produced and directed by Hugo Blick, unquestionably deserves to be discovered for all those who still don't know it. If you don't seen it yet, and you like the genre, you are already wasting time...run to see it!!

Hace unas semanas me encontré con esta miniserie británica, producción de la BBC que consta de 7 episodios, y que ha resultado ser una grata sorpresa. En seguida me llamo la atención, y antes incluso de que pudiera aun saber cuanto iba a poder disfrutar con ella, ya había quedado atrapado por su atmósfera.

La trama, ambientada en el Londres actual, gira en torno al conflicto contra el trafico de drogas dentro del Reino Unido y sobretodo al caso de asesinato de un importante y poderoso traficante de drogas, que había sido recientemente liberado de prisión tras recibir un repentino indulto por sus crímenes, lo que se conoce como el perdón de la reina. A partir de este punto, la investigación se llevará de forma paralela en ambos bandos: los traficantes y la policía, lo que proporciona al espectador una visión desde ambos ángulos. Por un lado, tenemos al detective Jonah Gabriel (Chiwetel Ejiofor), que se enfrenta al caso mientras trata de superar una amnesia sufrida a causa de un reciente disparo en la cabeza, y por otro, a Joseph Bede (Christopher Eccleston), mano derecha del traficante asesinado, quien se ve forzado a tomar el liderazgo del grupo y tratar de atar en corto al demente sobrino del fallecido, aun cuando su único deseo en realidad es apartarse de esta vida y tratar de superar los difíciles momentos que vive junto a su mujer. A la perspectiva de estos personajes, hay que sumarles la de un tercer protagonista, el misterioso, oscuro, despiadado y calculador Gatehouse (un sublime Stephen Rea), cuyo importante rol siempre parece estar oculto tras unos propósitos y lealtades desconocidas. Bajo este triángulo de personajes se desarrollará una historia complicada, de esas en las que tienes que estar bien atento, y en las que conforme se aclaran algunas cosas, otras se embrollarán aun más, gracias en parte a las subtramas que darán cabida a otros personajes, algunos con bastante importancia (como el personaje de Peter Glickman, interpretado por Antony Sher, quien comparte con Stephen Rea la que es, a mi parecer, una de las secuencias estrella de todo el serial)

Dos focos de luz emergen de la oscuridad, dos policías con linterna en mano iluminan un coche con un muerto dentro. Después de examinar la escena del crimen, uno de ellos, el más experimentado, le dice al otro: “Esto no es para nosotros, vamos a pasarlo y después, nos salimos del cuadro tanto como podamos...porque quienquiera que se haga cargo de este lamentable asunto, seguro como la mierda que será su muerte”. Después, apunta al cadáver con sus dedos, como si de una pistola se tratara, y dispara: bang, bang...bang! El caso esta abierto y salta la cabecera de la serie, acompañada de su magistral tema principal, lo que acaba por poner la guinda final a la primera y soberbia secuencia de la serie...no hace falta más, en ocasiones solo hace falta un minuto para saber que te has topado con algo que necesitarás ver si o si...Shadow Line es una de esas ocasiones.

Técnicamente impecable, rodada con extrema exquisitez, y bañada con una ambientación inquietante de atmósfera opresiva y oscura, The Shadow Line contiene algunas de las mejores secuencias que jamás allá visto en un serial de televisión, y lo mejor de todo es que su buen hacer se mantiene desde la primera secuencia hasta la última. Aunque los halagos hacia la serie son muchos, he de confesar que hay ciertas lagunas narrativas y situaciones un tanto complicadas de creer, en parte a veces porque las lineas de dialogo acaban siendo demasiado estudiadas, grandilocuentes o rimbombantes. Pero esto solo sucede en contadas ocasiones, y se suple gracias al acompañamiento de unas interpretaciones más que notables, entre ellas, cabe destacar sobretodo la del personaje de Gatehouse, interpretado por el talentoso Stephen Rea, que se come la cámara en cada plano.

En definitiva, esta serie revelación del 2011, escrita, producida y dirigida por Hugo Blick, merece sin duda ser descubierta por todos aquellos que aun no la conocen. Si aun no la viste, y el genero es de tu agrado, ya estás tardando.
